PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
STROKE SERVICES (2 September 2012)
Motion Details
That this House notes that stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK; further notes that the National Stroke Strategy was produced in 2007 to secure improvements in stroke services and outcomes for patients; recognises that two key objectives in the strategy were that patients should spend at least 90 per cent of their time in an acute specialist stroke unit and that those who present with a transient ischaemic attack are assessed and treated within 24 hours; calls for the Department of Health to produce a robust update on how the NHS is performing against these standards; and urges Ministers to reaffirm the Government's commitments to ensuring equitable patient access to high-quality stroke services 24 hours a day seven days a week.
