PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SOUTH KOREA AND SCIENTIFIC WHALING (15 July 2012)

Motion Details

That this House condemns South Korea's recent announcement at the annual meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) that it intends to begin whaling for scientific purposes; believes that scientific whaling is merely commercial whaling by another name; supports the work done by the International Fund for Animal Welfare; further believes that whaling is cruel and unnecessary and that there is no humane way to kill a whale; welcomes the record of successive UK governments in taking the lead in opposing whaling at the IWC; and urges the Government to take diplomatic action at the highest level to urge South Korea to abandon its recent proposal.
