PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PALLIATIVE CARE AND EUTHANASIA (27 June 2012)

Motion Details

That this House agrees that there should be no further attempts to relax the law on euthanasia or assisted suicide; welcomes the 2010 report for the Economist Intelligence Unit which places the UK at the top of an international league table rating end of life care provision; further welcomes the resolution of the Council of Europe that the practices of euthanasia and assisted suicide must always be illegal and that euthanasia, in the sense of the intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for his or her alleged benefit, must always be prohibited; and encourages the Government to further develop specialist palliative care and hospice provision to ensure care for the dying and terminally ill and to enable a truly dignified and peaceful death remains a top priority.
