PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SOUTH POLE BRITISH RECORD ATTEMPT (8 May 2012)
Motion Details
That this House notes that Livingston resident and young explorer Kasim Rafiq is planning an attempt to become the youngest British citizen to reach the South Pole with no outside assistance; further notes that his planned 730 mile journey, departing from Hercules Inlet on the Antarctic coast, to the South Pole in Antarctica, is due to begin in November 2012 and last for 60 days, and that, if successful, he will be just 22 years old when he completes the expedition, eight years younger than the current record holder; commends Kasim Rafiq for attempting this remarkable physical and mental challenge, and also for the fact that the expedition aims to raise a substantial sum for charity; and wishes him every success with his epic journey.
