PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ATHLETIC LEGACY FOR THE OLYMPIC STADIUM (15 December 2010)

Motion Details

That this House recognises that the new London 2012 Olympic Stadium will be the best athletics stadium in the world; believes the future of the Olympic Stadium after 2012 must include an international athletics track; notes that other than the Olympic Stadium there are no athletics stadia in England with the permanent facilities and capacity required to host the 2017 World Athletics Championship; further notes that hosting a world athletics championship would have a positive economic impact of 102.6 million; therefore supports UK Athletics' bid to turn the Olympic Stadium into a 60,000-capacity arena for athletics, football, concerts and community; and welcomes support for that bid from Olympians Kelly Holmes, Daley Thompson, Alan Wells, Steve Cram, Steve Backley, Roger Black, Jamie Baulch, Lynn Davies, Brendan Foster, Katherine Merry, David Moorcroft, Alan Pascoe, Wendy Sly andIan Stewart and the Paralympian Tanni Grey-Thompson.
