PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH (25 October 2010)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes Lung Cancer Awareness Month; notes that 39,750 people are diagnosed with lung cancer each year in the UK, and that the disease is the UK's largest cancer killer, with one person with lung cancer dying every 15 minutes; further notes that in order to decrease mortality in lung cancer, increased investment in research into lung cancer is needed, including improving early detection of the disease which accounts for 23 per cent. of all cancer deaths but only five per cent. of UK cancer research spend; commends the work of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in raising awareness and researching earlier diagnosis; and calls on the Government to continue to support work raising awareness about the early detection and prevention of the UK's biggest cancer killer.
