PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ENERGY GENERATION AND ENERGY SAVING (26 July 2010)
Motion Details
That this House notes that the evidence submitted to the recent consultation on the draft national policy statement for energy infrastructure by the Association for the Conservation of Energy made the point that the Government has not carried out an assessment as to how the costs and benefits of investment in energy generation capacity compare to the costs and benefits of demand reduction policies; finds this particularly surprising as both the previous government, in its 2003 Energy White Paper and the current Government, as outlined in the debate on energy efficiency on 30 June 2010 by the Minister of State, Department for Energy and Climate Change, the hon. Member for Bexhill and Battle, Official Report, columns 870-72, agree that energy efficiency is the cheapest and cleanest way to achieve the UK's energy policy objectives; and calls on the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change to carry out such an assessment expeditiously, and to publish the results.
