PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
GLOBAL FUND FOR AIDS, TB AND MALARIA (15 July 2010)
Motion Details
That this House applauds the Government's commitments to protect funding for the Department for International Development to improve infant, child and maternal health, tackle diseases and contribute to the Millennium Development Goals; recognises the important contribution of the last Government to the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in terms of leadership and finance; believes that the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria which has saved over five million lives is an effective and transparent mechanism for fighting disease as well as strengthening developing countries' health systems; notes that it out-performs other multi-lateral organisations in this respect; particularly recognises its important role in promoting infant, child and maternal health; and calls on the Government to reaffirm its global leadership, set an example to encourage other contributing nations and make an appropriate offer to the Global Fund at the vital replenishment meetings this autumn.
