Motion Details
That this House welcomes Asthma UK's Fighting for Breath report which reveals the limiting impact of severe asthma; notes that there are5.4 million people with asthma in the UK, roughly five per cent. of whom have asthma so severe that it cannot be treated with the usual medicines; recognises that many people with severe asthma battle against a lack of understanding about the impact of their condition from employers, school staff and healthcare professionals; condemns the fact that lives are put at risk in accident and emergency departments becausehealthcare professionals are not appropriately trained in asthma management; further notes that the work of specialist nurses has reduced costly emergency admissions and unscheduled care; and calls on the Government to increase awareness of severe asthma and to maintain investment in specialist asthma nurses and training to achieve the best possible outcomes for people with severe asthma.
