PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
WESTBURY SWIMMING POOL (29 March 2010)
Motion Details
That this House notes Westbury's unique and historic swimming pool which has been in service since 1888 having been constructed in 1887 by William Henry Laverton for 5,000; further notes the contribution it makes to fitness and wellbeing in Westbury and the surrounding area; further notes the remedial benefits of its relatively warm water for people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease; observes that the pool is the home of Westbury's thriving amateur swimming club; further notes that Dr Ian Gordon and Mr Simon Inglis in their book, Great Lengths, the historic indoor swimming pools of Britain, cite the Westbury pool as a firm candidate for listing; commends the pool's operators for planning to take part in Marie Curie Cancer Care's Swimathon in April 2010; and offers its good wishes for another century of service as a leisure and heritage facility in Westbury.
