HON. MEMBER FOR GLASGOW CENTRAL (24 June 2007)
Motion Details
That this House notes with sadness the decision of Britain's first Muslim Member of Parliament, the hon. Member for Glasgow Central, to stand down at the next general election; congratulates him on his many achievements on behalf of his constituency, including helping to save Govan shipyard from closure and, more recently, bringing the racist murderers of 15 year old Kriss Donald back to the UK; applauds his outstanding contribution to charity and welfare projects in this country and abroad; observes how his moderate and principled approach has helped enhance the image of British Muslims and promote community cohesion in Scotland and the rest of Britain; and wishes the hon. Member for Glasgow Central all the best for his post-Commons life after the next general election.
