PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ACTION AGAINST TRAFFICKING (10 June 2007)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the recognition in the UK Action Plan on Tackling Trafficking of the Department for International Development's support for anti-trafficking projects in source countries; notes with concern the continuing link between lack of opportunities and education, and an increased vulnerability to trafficking, particularly amongst women and children; further welcomes the programmes by Save the Children and World Vision in West Africa to tackle child trafficking through education; calls on the Government to adopt this anti-trafficking approach in bilateral and multilateral development plans, through providing tailored education and training programmes to people identified as vulnerable to trafficking, thus reducing the number of people trafficked; and notes that this would both correlate with and help achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
