PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHRISTIAN AID'S CUT THE CARBON CAMPAIGN (27 February 2007)
Motion Details
That this House believes that climate change poses a serious threat to everyone; further believes that the threat it poses to poor people in developing countries is more significant and urgent than to those living in rich countries; notes that these are the people who have contributed least to the causes of man-made climate change; welcomes Christian Aid's new Cut the Carbon campaign to draw attention to and end this injustice; further notes that while the UK domestic economy accounts for two per cent. of global carbon emissions, UK companies, especially those listed on the London Stock Exchange, are responsible for at least 12 to 15 per cent.; and calls on the Government to introduce mandatory reporting standards requiring UK companies to give a full account of their global carbon footprint in their annual reports with the aim of enabling customers and investors to make informed choices about which companies to buy from and invest in.
