PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION ON IRAN (5 February 2007)
Motion Details
That this House, whilst recognising the importance of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the prevention of further nuclear proliferation in the Middle East, calls for a new drive towards a diplomatic solution on Iran; acknowledges the potential security threat posed by Iran to Israel and condemns the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's rhetoric towards that country; underlines the onus on Iran to guarantee greater transparency to the international community on its nuclear programme; emphasises the grave and widespread possible consequences of military action; welcomes a report by 15 think tanks, aid agencies and religious groups analysing the full consequences of military action; and calls upon the UK Government to continue to use the time available to ensure that a diplomatic solution is secured and an escalation towards military action avoided.
