PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MARRIAGE EQUALITY FOR HUMANISTS (24 January 2007)
Motion Details
That this House notes that whereas most religious people may marry in a legal ceremony that reflects their beliefs, humanists and members of some religious groups such as Baha'is are currently not able to marry in such a ceremony and instead can opt only for a civil ceremony; further notes that reform has already taken place in Scotland to redress this problem; believes that all religion or belief groups should be able to conduct state recognised marriage ceremonies for their members; and calls on the Government to reform the law on marrige so as to remove the inequalities suffered at present by humanists and other belief groups.
