PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PARLIAMENTARY SCRUTINY OF ROYAL WARRANTS (9 January 2007)
Motion Details
That this House notes that 800 companies hold Royal Warrants of Appointment from Her Majesty the Queen, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh or HRH the Prince of Wales; further notes that Royal Warrants are granted and can be removed on the advice of the Lord Chamberlain and the Royal Household Tradesmen's Warrants Committee; congratulates HRH the Prince of Wales on his insistence that all those who hold his Royal Warrant should have a strict environmental policy; believes that all Royal Warrant holders should also have a proven fair employment policy, not only guaranteeing workers' rights in this country, but ensuring that out-sourced work overseas is not produced on slave wages or by children; and urges the Leader of the House to set up a Joint Committee of the Lords and Commons to ensure Parliamentary scrutiny of the Royal Warrants and to assist the Lord Chamberlain in preparing his advice.
