PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SAVE OUR NURSERIES CAMPAIGN (22 November 2006)

Motion Details

That this House recognises that nurseries, pre-schools and day-care providers fulfil a vital role in the development of pre-school children and that voluntary, private and independent nurseries provide the overwhelming majority of nursery care; notes that the Government's new code of practice on the provision of free nursery care threatens nursery providers' financial viability; further notes with concern that the Government has not assessed how many providers could be forced to close when the code of practice is implemented; and therefore urges the Government to halt the implementation of this code of practice until an assessment is made to ensure that existing and trusted nursery providers are able to continue in their work.
