PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
WHALES (15 November 2006)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the significant role played by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in protecting whales; further recognises the importance of continuing with that protection; is concerned about the success of diplomatic actions by pro-whaling countries which are attempting to take control of the IWC; is further concerned about the resolution passed at the July 2006 IWC meeting which declared the ban on commercial whale hunting as being invalid; and calls upon the Government to take action before the next IWC meeting to ensure that the moratorium on whaling remains in place and is observed by all countries.
