PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ALLSCOTT SUGAR BEET FACTORY (5 July 2006)
Motion Details
That this House expresses concern over British Sugar's decision to close its sugar beet factory in Allscott, Shropshire by April 2007; calls upon British Sugar to ensure that it consults fully with the factory workforce, the local community, the farming community, hauliers and the National Farmers Union (NFU), to ensure that those employees and suppliers affected by the decision are offered transitional financial relief; further calls on British Sugar to examine fully the prospect of Allscott becoming a centre for bio-fuels; and further calls on British Sugar to enter into discussions with local farmers and the NFU about establishing a farming co-operative which could form part of the supply chain for a new bio-fuel facility.
