PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
WHY WOMEN CAMPAIGN (20 June 2006)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the Why Women campaign launched by the Women's Resource Centre, which challenges the idea that society is in a post-feminist era and highlights the continuing need for services and advocacy run by women for women; applauds the free, often life-saving, work by women's voluntary and community organisations; understands that the cost of domestic violence in England and Wales is £22.9 billion a year and recognises that this figure would be far higher without the support and preventative work carried out by women's organisations; believes that the women's sector must be supported by adequate funding and that stopping discrimination, inequality and violence against women benefits all; and calls on the Government to acknowledge that women continue to face systematic disadvantage because of their gender, and to take immediate action to maximise funding of the women's voluntary and community sector.
