PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FREEDOM OF EMPLOYMENT ACROSS THE EU (24 January 2006)
Motion Details
That this House acknowledges the economic benefits of allowing workers from new European Union member states access to the British labour market; applauds the governments of Sweden and Ireland for taking the same positive decision to allow access since the enlargement of the EU in 2004; recognises that other member states are currently reviewing their own restrictions on labour from central and eastern Europe; calls on other member states of the European Union to allow the same level of access to their labour markets at the earliest opportunity; notes that the European Commission will shortly be publishing a report containing its recommendations on the issue; and encourages the European Commission to take a strong role in the abolition of all forms of economic barriers within the EU.
