PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BANNING CHRISTIAN SYMBOLS (12 December 2005)

That this House believes that the banning of Christian symbols is a thoroughly unwelcome sign of political correctness which undermines age-old British traditions and values; notes with regret that some councils are banning references to Christmas, referring to Christmas lights as winter lights instead; further notes with concern that a survey carried out by employment law firm, Peninsula, highlighted that more than two out of three companies had banned Christmas decorations from offices because of fears that they will offend people from different faiths; and welcomes the comments made by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, highlighting the fact that the absence of Christian symbols does nothing at all for community relations and the upholding of Christmas traditions in this country.
