PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
RETURN OF YOUNG'S BITTER TO STRANGERS' BAR (30 November 2005)

That this House notes with concern the withdrawal of Young's Ordinary Bitter from sale in Strangers' Bar and its replacement with San Miguel lager; regards this as a deeply retrograde step as Young's is one of the most renowned cask-conditioned ales in the UK, which was put on tap in Strangers' Bar in response to demand from hon. Members in 1990, along with Federation Bitter; further notes that it remains a popular choice among hon. Members from all parts of the country and is brewed with modern equipment but by methods unchanged for generations using only the highest quality traditional ingredients at Great Britain's oldest continuously-working brewery, the Ram Brewery in Wandsworth; further notes that San Miguel at 5.0 per cent. ABV is not only inferior but also far more alcoholic than Young's Bitter at 3.7 per cent. ABV; and urges the Administration Committee to review its choice of beers for Strangers' Bar and to bring Young's back.
