PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CASH MACHINE RED AND GREEN SIGNS (15 November 2005)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes Nationwide's Free ATM campaign and its move to bring about transparency by displaying clear green signs indicating that its machines will not charge for cash withdrawals; notes that Nationwide estimates that fee-charging machines will cost consumers £250 million in 2006; and calls on other banks, building societies and ATM providers to adopt standardised green signs for free ATMs and red signs for charging ATMs so that consumers can recognise from a distance whether or not they will be charged for withdrawing cash.
