PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TREATMENT OF MINORITY RELIGIONS IN EGYPT (14 November 2005)

That this House notes the current process of computerisation of identity cards in Egypt; observes that Egyptian citizens will be required to declare their religious affiliation and that only Islam, Christianity and Judaism will be accepted as responses; further notes that other minority religions, such as the Bahá'ís, will not be able to register, nor to leave this section blank, and will therefore become non-citizens in their own state; and therefore urges the Government to make representations to the Egyptian authorities to ensure that Egyptian citizens who are not members of the three official faiths, such as the Bahá'aís, are not discriminated against and are able to receive identity cards.
