PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
COMPENSATION FOR BRITISH VICTIMS OF TERRORISM ABROAD (12 October 2005)

That this House condemns recent terrorist attacks in London, Egypt and Bali; notes that the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority enables the Government to make payments to those affected by such atrocities in the UK; further notes, however, that the Government does not make comparable payments to British citizens affected by terrorist attacks which occur in other countries; further notes that the Italian and French governments do make payments to their nationals who are victims of terrorism abroad; further notes that insurance arrangements do not recompense for acts of terrorism; and therefore calls on the Government to extend the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme to include all UK citizens who are the victims of terrorism, so that none are left in financial hardship.
