PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY CAMPAIGN (10 July 2005)
Motion Details
That this House is concerned at research carried out by Vodafone which shows that more than 75 per cent. of people carry no details of who they would like telephoned following a serious accident, emergency or tragedy; recognises that approximately 80 per cent. of people in the UK carry a mobile phone; congratulates Bob Brotchie and the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust for developing the excellent In Case of Emergency (ICE) campaign, a simple way of letting the emergency services know who to contact in an emergency; further congratulates Simon Weston and Vodafone for supporting the ICE initiative; strongly urges all mobile phone users to look at the website, www.icecontact.com and to save `ICE' in their phone as a contact with the name and telephone number of their next-of-kin, which will enable emergency services to contact loved ones in the event of an emergency; calls on mobile phone companies to build the ICE contact into future phone models as a matter of course and to publicise the campaign; and calls on the Government to publicise the campaign and for hospitals, general practitioner surgeries, police stations, libraries and other public places to advertise the initiative.
