PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SKIN CANCER AWARENESS AND PREVENTION (20 June 2005)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the importance of prevention for reducing the number of people diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the UK; notes that malignant melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, is being seen increasingly in younger people and that recent research has shown that sunburn in childhood can double the risk of melanoma in later life, and that the number diagnosed with melanoma is likely to double in the next 30 years; urges the Government to maintain its commitment to skin cancer prevention campaigns; strongly supports Cancer Research UK's Sunsmart campaign in its efforts to raise awareness of the risk factors for skin cancer and to promote sunsmart behaviour to the public; and welcomes molewatch activity within Parliament to provide this important information for staff and honourable Members.
