PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
YORKSHIRE AND HUMBER REGION-WIDE CONCESSIONARY BUS PASS FOR PENSIONERS AND THE DISABLED (19 June 2005)
Motion Details
That this House notes the intention of the Government to introduce a full-fare local concessionary bus pass in April 2006 for pensioners and the disabled; further notes however that many bus journeys in Yorkshire and the Humber cross county and district boundaries, for example Leeds to Scarborough, Wetherby to Harrogate or Goole to Doncaster and which therefore do not allow the use of current concessionary bus passes; welcomes the decision by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assembly to undertake a feasibility study into the introduction of a region-wide concessionary bus pass for pensioners and the disabled; recognises the tremendous advantages of such a pass in terms of increased access to the many and varied shopping centres, three national parks, two areas of outstanding natural beauty, three sections of Heritage Coast and 365 sites of special scientific interest across Yorkshire and the Humber; and urges all parties involved with the feasibility study to help deliver what would be a popular innovation across the 56 parliamentary constituencies which make up the Yorkshire and Humber region.
