SWITZERLAND'S TIGHTER LINKS WITH THE EU (7 June 2005)

Motion Details

That this House congratulates the people of Switzerland who, in their referendum on 5th June, voted in favour of closer judicial and police links with the European Union; welcomes their decision to sign up to the EU's Schengen and Dublin treaties on closer co-operation between police forces and judges, as well as joint action on asylum seekers; further welcomes the Swiss initiative to grant the same rights to work and live in the country to citizens of the new member states of the EU that joined in May 2004; and encourages the Government to use the UK Presidency of the EU to restore the reform agenda and rebuild community relations.
