PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
NATIONAL MEN'S HEALTH WEEK (5 June 2005)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates the Men's Health Forum for organising National Men's Health Week on 13th to 19th June with its focus on the problem of men and obesity, for its report, Hazardous Waist? Tackling the Epidemic of Excess Weight in Men and for the consensus statement on men and weight, Three Quarters Is Too Many, supported by 28 charitable, commercial and public organisations; notes that men who are overweight or obese are significantly more likely to suffer from coronary heart disease, stroke, type two diabetes, cancer and a range of other health problems; calls for concerted action to halt the rise in weight now so that the wholly undesirable milestone of three-quarters of men overweight or obese by 2010 is never reached; and further calls for the Secretary of State for Health to resource and promote the five actions recommended in Three Quarters Is Too Many.
