PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BUSHMEAT TRADE (2 December 2004)

Motion Details

That this House takes note of the special report, Butchered in Africa, on Sale in Britain, concerning the bushmeat trade, published in the Daily Mail on 30th November; recognises that many species of wild animals, including those which are highly endangered, are threatened by the international bushmeat trade; further recognises the potentially far-reaching and devastating disease and health consequences for livestock, and humans, that could be caused to the UK by illegally imported bushmeat; and calls upon the Government to exert further efforts to prevent the illegal importation of bushmeat into the UK, to work to support strategies in countries where bushmeat originates to improve relevant law enforcement, to reduce the volume and availability of illegal bushmeat in trade and to protect and conserve wild species in their natural habitat.
