PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
NHS CHIROPODY SERVICES (16 May 2005)
Motion Details
That this House condemns the removal from NHS chiropody waiting lists of hundreds of thousands of patients who have not received treatment; is concerned that, where patients have been referred by GPs, the eligibility criteria set by primary care trusts or other local bodies vary considerably; notes the resulting large differences in the availability of chiropody services across different regions of the country; is further concerned that many elderly patients are therefore now being forced to pay for basic and essential chiropody care in the private sector; believes that in the target-driven culture of the NHS, the provision of services for which no targets exist will inevitably suffer as resources are diverted to targeted conditions; and calls on the Government to abandon all targets and allow medical professionals to set clinical priorities for the provision of healthcare.
