PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DEMOCRACY IN BURMA (16 May 2005)

Motion Details

That this House expresses deep concern over the appalling human rights situation in Burma; calls for the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi and over 1,300 political prisoners; notes that despite repeated calls from the British Government and European Union there has not been a single democratic reform in Burma in the past 15 years; believes that the current foreign policy of the British Government and European Union relating to Burma needs to be strengthened and should include unilateral action by the British Government as well as multilateral action by the European Union and United Nations; and calls on the Government to make restoring democracy to Burma a key foreign policy priority.
