PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
STRATEGIC ROAD NETWORK (10 March 2005)

Motion Details

That this House condemns the erosion of the importance of the English strategic road network, the motorways and trunk roads managed by the Highways Agency; believes that the strategic road network, the country's major transport asset, is making up just four per cent. of the road network but carrying one-third of all traffic; and calls upon the Government to put a stop to plans to further devolve and downgrade key sections of the network such as the M5 west and south of Bristol, much of the A1, and most roads in the South West and East Anglia, none of which are deemed to be of national importance.
