PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LOCAL GOVERNMENT PENSION SCHEMES (13 January 2005)
Motion Details
That this House is aware that currently the Government is bringing forward new regulations to alter the minimum retirement age and early retirement provision in the Local Government Pension Scheme, whilst at the same time holding a consultation exercise on ways to bring in a totally new scheme to commence from April 2008; is alarmed that proposals include the abolition of the 85 year rule criteria, of other early retirement provisions, and of other established calculative formulae used to ascertain pension levels; and calls upon the Government not to go down this path until such time as majority agreements can be negotiated by representatives of employees in these sectors.
