PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SPEED CAMERAS (26 November 2003)

Motion Details

That this House calls on the Government to undertake an urgent review of the number of speed cameras operational in the United Kingdom; is distressed to learn that according to research published by Autocar Magazine there are 33 per cent. more cameras positioned on the UK's 50 safest roads than on the 50 most dangerous stretches; notes that offences detected by speed cameras have increased four-fold since 1997, yet the number of fatalities has remained static; and urges the Government to adopt the Conservative Party's policy to position speed cameras in genuine accident black sports and to stop using revenue raised from speed cameras for purposes other than making roads safer.
