PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DEATHS FROM ECTOPIC PREGNANCY (5 February 2004)

That this House expresses concern at the rise in the number of ectopic pregnancies; expresses its regret and deep sorrow that around eight women a year die needlessly; notes experience in Sweden where screening for chlamydia and an early scan for any woman possibly pregnant have reduced both the number of ectopic pregnancies and the deaths from it; welcomes the rolling out of a chlamydia screening programme announced last month; and calls on the Department of Health to roll it out further so it is available throughout the country as quickly as possible and for it to issue guidance where there is a chance a woman may be pregnant, and to offer the women a scan within three weeks.
