PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
NATIONAL FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT (2 February 2004)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the differences we can make to Third World producers when towns and cities across the UK achieve Fairtrade status; congratulates Garstang on being the world's first town to gain Fairtrade status, and Bolton Fairtrade Campaign Group as they celebrate the first anniversary of becoming a Fairtrade town and the 10th anniversary of the use of the Fairtrade mark; welcomes the fact that 31 towns and cities in the UK have followed suit and that 140 other areas are in the process of doing so; and calls on the Government to raise awareness and actively encourage schools, local authorities and retailers to adopt fair trade principles and get involved in the national Fairtrade fortnight that will take place in early March.
