PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
IMPLEMENTATION OF EU EMISSIONS TRADING SCHEME (4 March 2004)
Motion Details
That this House has serious concerns about the over-zealous way in which the Government is proposing to apply the provisions of the EU Emissions Trading scheme to the United Kingdom; is concerned about the implications for competitiveness of the Government aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions without EU partners making similar cuts; is concerned about the costs to small businesses of complying with these new regulations on top of the climate change levy and integrated prevention and pollution control requirements; and calls on the Government to take action to reduce these burdens without compromising environmental protection.
