ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY BICENTENARY CELEBRATIONS (3 March 2004)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates the Royal Horticultural Society as it celebrates its bicentenary on 7th March; notes that since its inception in 1804, the Royal Horticultural Society has grown to become the world's leading gardening charity, now supported by nearly 340,000 members; further notes that the charity inspires and informs millions of gardeners through its gardens and flower shows, events and publications, and has made an invaluable contribution to the UK gardening sector; expresses gratitude for the charity's continued commitment to advancing horticulture and promoting gardening; also notes that its charitable work includes undertaking scientific research into issues affecting gardeners, holding plant trials and providing learning opportunities for people of all ages and abilities; and praises John Wedgwood who originally suggested the idea of a British horticultural society in 1800.
