PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MUTUAL HOME OWNERSHIP AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING (24 February 2004)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the research report, Common Ground - for mutual home ownership, jointly published by the New Economics Foundation, CDS Co-operatives and the Housing Corporation, which recommends the development of co-operative mutual home ownership schemes, with land held in trust by a Community Land Trust, as a means of meeting the acute gap in the supply of affordable housing for key workers and others with average earnings in high cost housing areas; notes that this fully realised model ensures that housing remains affordable for the long term; and urges the Government and the Housing Corporation to support the development of two demonstration projects within the next six months.
