PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MR MARWAN BARGHOUTI (6 June 2004)
Motion Details
That this House deplores the conduct of the trial of Mr Marwan Barghouti, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and the verdict handed down on 6th June by the Tel Aviv District Court; notes with grave concern the conclusions of the report commissioned by the Inter-Parliamentary Union that numerous breaches of international law make it impossible to conclude that Mr Barghouti was given a fair trial and that far from bringing security, the breaches of international law have undermined the authority of Israeli justice by casting discredit on its conduct of investigations and the procedures used; and calls upon the UK Government to do all it can to secure Mr Barghouti's immediate release.
