PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CAMPAIGN ON THE ENVIRONMENT (13 November 2002)
Motion Details
That this House notes with concern that the United Kingdom remains at the bottom of the European league table on the environment particularly when just 11 per cent. of household waste is recycled or composted; further notes how this contrasts with results of a MORI survey which shows that a majority of people are motivated to be greener by 'going their bit' for the environment; notes with concern that the Government's 'doing your bit' campaign has been dormant in 2002, particularly in light of the Earth Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in August of this year; urges Parliament and all government departments to 'do their bit' by increasing recycling of waste, use recycled materials, reduce energy use and sign up to renewable energy supplies; and calls on the Government to reinvigorate and strengthen the 'doing your bit' campaign to ensure an increased public awareness and action on the environment.
