GIBRALTAR (No.2) (20 November 2002)
Motion Details
That this House notes the overwhelming rejection of any proposed joint sovereignty deal over Gibraltar between the United Kingdom and Spain by the people of Gibraltar in the referendum held on 7th November with 99 per cent. of the electorate opposing any such deal; recognises that the United Kingdom Government are currently in talks under the Brussels Process with their Spanish counterparts over this matter; and calls on both the British and Spanish governments to end talks on joint sovereignty and to enter into constructive dialogue with the Government of Gibraltar regarding the future of Gibraltar and to ensure that the rights and interests of both Gibraltar and Spain are recognised so that a mature relationship can be harnessed enabling all three parties to move forward in a modern Europe.
