PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LONDON OLYMPICS BID (15 January 2003)

Motion Details

That this House notes that the Arup Report commissioned by the Government and other interested parties has concluded that the proposal to host the 2012 Olympic Games in London can be developed into a world beating bid; welcomes the support for such a bid that has already been given by the British Olympic governing bodies, London's elected representatives, the London business community and 75 per cent. of the population according to the poll commissioned by the Government; recalls the commitment given by the Labour Party in its Sports Strategy document to support an Olympic bid; believes that an Olympics in London would realise significant benefits for sport, health, transport, tourism, jobs and regeneration not just for London but for the nation as a whole; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take the lead in supporting a bid to bring the Olympics to London without further delay.
