PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
JOINING THE EURO (13 April 2003)
Motion Details
That this House notes that Her Majesty's Government will publish its assessment of the five economic tests on euro membership by June; further notes the overwhelming evidence of economic convergence between the United Kingdom and the euro zone, of an increase in trade between euro countries and of a decline in inward investment into the UK since the successful launch of the euro; is concerned that by staying out of the euro Britain risks economic isolation through a further fall in trade and inward investment; regards it is essential for the UK's own economic prosperity that it plays a leading role in the development of Europe's economy; recognises that it is almost impossible to play that role while remaining outside the euro; and looks forward to a successful referendum on the UK's membership of the euro in this Parliament.
