PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DIGITAL DOWNLOAD DAY (6 April 2003)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the declaration of 9th April as Digital Download Day, an initiative to encourage a legal trade in music on the internet; believes that the efforts by the music industry to develop such a legal trade should be strongly supported; views with concern the growth of illegal peer-to-peer trading in music files and its effect on the UK music industry; notes that there are currently more than 4.5 million people accessing in excess of 900 million unauthorised music files at any one time, and that many of those files include music, performances, recordings and other contributions created by British composers, songwriters and artists and funded by British companies; and calls upon the Government to give its support to the UK music industry in its struggle to defend its intellectual property.
