PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HUMANITARIAN SITUATION IN LIBERIA (11 June 2003)
Motion Details
That this House is gravely concerned about the current situation in Liberia; notes that Liberia has a population of 2.7 million, of which 1.2 million are currently under seige in Monrovia and that it is estimated that at least 25,000 internally displaced persons have sought refuge in the capital's stadium; further notes that serious concerns have been raised that sanitation-related epidemics could soon emerge; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government and other members of the international community to work towards providing assistance to civilians affected by the civil war in Liberia through non-governmental organisations and UN agencies present in Liberia and to press, with the UN Security Council, for a peaceful solution.
