PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
AWARD OF MEDALS TO SUEZ VETERANS (11 June 2003)
Motion Details
That this House thanks all those involved in the sensible, humane and long overdue decision to award an appropriate medal to those who served in the Suez zone; notes that this issue had been unresolved by all previous governments over the last 50 years and that the current Government deserves congratulations for finally delivering justice to servicemen who along with honourable Members from all parts of the House have campaigned for this recognition; believes that former service personnel are owed an unredeemable debt; and recognises that the award of a medal goes some way to acknowledge the sacrifice of the Suez veterans and will act as an inspiration to honourable Members to continue the longer running campaign to secure appropriate medals for those who served on the Arctic convoys and other unrecognised theatres of war.
